Ullambana Festival 2022
The observance and celebration of the Ullambana Festival during the Seventh Lunar Month is based on a discourse by the Buddha.
Maudgalyayana, a disciple of the Buddha, discovers that his mother had been reborn into the realm of the hungry ghosts and is suffering.
The troubled Maudgalyayana then seeks the Buddha for help. The Buddha advises him to make offerings to the Sangha, as the merit of doing so would help relieve the suffering of his Mother, and that of other beings in the same state.
Ullambana is a festival of liberation, which advocates and reinforces the concept of filial piety.
